Terms of service

These are the terms for using Sitr. They are written to be read, because an agreement you cannot get through is not really an agreement. Using the site means you accept them.

What Sitr is

A tool that finds faces in your videos and photos and covers them, running entirely inside your own browser. There is a free tier and there are paid plans; what each one includes is shown on the site and may change for new purchases, never retroactively for one you have already made.

Your account

• You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep access to your email secure — that is how signing in works.
• One person, one account. Do not share credentials or resell access.
• You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live, and at least 13.

Your files stay yours

We claim no rights over anything you make with Sitr. We could not claim rights over your files even if we wanted to, because we never receive them — see the privacy policy for what that means in detail. What you produce is yours to do anything with.

Using it fairly

Do not use Sitr to:

• Break the law, or help somebody else break it.
• Conceal a face in order to commit fraud, harass somebody, evade a lawful investigation, or produce material that sexualises children.
• Post anything to a linked social account that breaks that platform’s own rules — TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook each have their own, and linking your account does not suspend them.
• Attack the service itself: breaking into accounts, hammering it automatically, or working around the limits on the free tier.

Posting to your social accounts

If you link a social account, you are asking us to act on your behalf on that platform, within the permissions you granted. You remain the author and the publisher of anything posted that way — it appears on your account, under your name, subject to that platform’s rules.

Posting depends on services we do not control. A platform can change its rules, throttle us, reject a post, or withdraw access entirely, and any of those can stop the feature working with no notice to us or to you. Which platforms are available may therefore change over time. You can always download your file and post it yourself, and that path will always exist.

What this does not promise

Sitr covers faces well. It cannot promise that somebody will not be recognised anyway, and you should not treat it as if it does.

Face detection is not perfect. A tracker can lose a face for a frame during fast movement or an unusual angle; a face at the edge of a shot or turned far away from the camera can be missed. And a face is only one of the things in a video that identifies a person — the voice, the metadata inside the file, what is visible in the background, the account it is posted from.

The service is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law where you live allows that. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

Payment and refunds

Prices are shown before you pay and are charged through Stripe. If a paid feature does not work as described, write to us and we will refund you — we would rather do that than argue about it. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time from your account page and continue until the end of the period you have paid for.

Ending it

You can delete your account whenever you like, from your account page. We may suspend or close an account that is breaking the section on using it fairly, or that we are legally required to close. If we close your account for anything other than a breach, we will refund the unused part of anything you have paid.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and a change that materially affects your rights will be told to account holders by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Sitr after that means you accept the new version.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of the place Sitr is operated from, and nothing in them removes any consumer-protection right you have where you live.
